Open up a Cannes of Whoop-ass



So for anyone who doesn't follow my blog, or what going on in advertising, the Cannes Lions are being handed out this week. I'm interning at TBWA in L.A. so I'm being bombarded with amazing ads and stuff that the group has submitted. The coolest thing I've seen so far was the Zimbabwean campaign. The Government there is so corrupt, they let the inflation rate of their dollar ma =x out. People are charged royalty taxes to read the newspaper. No one can afford this. They actually have a trillion dollar note! It isn't even enough to buy a loaf of bread. To call attention to this, TBWA made the money talk. They made billboards of real zimbabwean money and handed out dollar notes in the trillions to demonstrate that their money was worthless with a call to action on them.  This campaign just took the Grand Prix Outdoor award!
