So I spent my day today fixing up my resume and spending hours sifting through criegslist and yahoo for a summer internship and that was hard and all, but the most stressful part of my day was about an hour ago when I was faced with the job of strategic keg placement for my best friend’s 21st b day party tonight.
Although you would think figuring out my future would be harder, if you’ve ever tried to find the perfect place for a keg at a party you know that it is no easy task. The problem first comes in with my double story back deck. Now you want it to be right outside the door so you can keep the most people inside (AKA noise to the minimum) but then again it needs to be accessible for those people playing beer pong on the lower level. Now any college party thrower knows that the best place for a keg is wherever the biggest circle can be formed... allowing it to be abused from all sides… and it must have an area of it’s own for this, however it can’t be further then a drunk stumble away… see I told you it was complicated!
Since I’m supposed to relate this to advertising, I guess you could say finding a strategic place for a keg, is kinda like media planning and finding a good place for an ad. You want it to be accessible to your target market (the heavy drinkers) but you don’t want to over advertise to them (AKA give them alcohol poisoning) and nobody else gets anything. Yep you guessed it, were now going back to the circle thing. You want your ad to be hit from all angles… or all mediums, letting everybody have a sip, or gulp.
We ended up putting the keg off the balcony but against the side so it could be accessible from those playing beer pong and those on the mission for beer. And then we put the hunch punch inside, for the girls who are going to complain that “it’s too cold out.” I guess there's more to this whole media planning thing then I thought!
Ps: YOUR ALL INVITED TONIGHT! We live on campus circle so stop by! Till next week…
