Intrusion Abrusion

Last semester I took a class on political economy and the class in synopsis blamed advertising for everything. Advertising was to blame for barriers to entry for small businesses, poverty, hunger, greed, unequal living conditions, corruption, poor tv programs, boring magazines, etc. People complained that they were tired of seeing wrapped buses, advertisements over urinals, and the million other vehicles that we love to great. I see how sometimes it’s crazy, but it’s cool too. As I’m typing I’m watching CNN and the orator giving a press conference is sitting at a table with a backdrop full of advertisements, but the thing is what else should you put behind him? Why waste the opportunity by putting a cityscape or a blank screen? I think we need more. Yesterday I was working and a co-worker had her I.D fastened behind the plastic wrap on the back of her pack of cigarettes and I just thought, “Man, that is a good place for a chewing gum print ad.” I know I hate when people have cigarette breath and I’m sure they don’t want it either. What do you think about the intrusiveness of advertising?
