New Media

I read an article a few weeks ago I thought I might share with you all. I'm really interested in New Media and going into the field so I when reading the newspaper or magazines I'm always looking for relevant articles. This one made me glow with excitement..
The article discusses the increase in Ad Spend over the next four year on new media. Chasing consumer behavior and shifting habits, marketers are about to make "massive investments in new digital and out of home media platforms", according to a forecast from research firm PQ Media.
Companies are expected to spend 160.8 billion in 2012, up 82% from 2008. According to PQ Media's CEO, "American's are spending more time out of the home, working late hours, communicating via wireless devices, shopping in malls and stuck in traffic."
In order to reach these people marketers are changing their strategies. New Media platforms are expected to account for 27% of all ad and marketing spending in 2012.
The article also mentions the prediction that companies will increase their sales budgets and shift dollars away from traditional media including broadcast TV, newspapers and magazines.
Some of the sectors that can expect to see major changes and increase in ad spend include, online search, event sponsorships, e-direct marketing, and online video and rich media.

Personally, I think these shifts in ad spend are going to happen a lot sooner than 2012.
