Do you ever feel like you're running out of creativity?? I feel like I have thought up ever possible idea that is humanly possible, and I just can't think anymore! Advertising has taken over my life...I mean, I'm even dreaming about it now. Seriously, the other night I had a dream about creating an ad campaign, I came up with a theme, a concept, a tagline, everything! All in my dream! So I found this cool article about being creative. It's by Huge MacLeod, and he gives tips (complete with pictures) about how to be creative. Some of the tips he gives for being creative are:
- Ignore everyone- you don't know if your idea is any good the moment it is created. The most you can hope for is a strong gut feeling that's it. Good ideas alter the power position in relationships, that is why good ideas are always initially resisted.
- The idea doesn't have to be big, it just has to change the world. The sovereignty you have over your work will inspire far more people than the actual content ever will.
- Put the hours in. Do it for long enough, and the magical, life-transforming things happen eventually.
- Everyone is born creative, everyone is given a box of crayons in Kindergarden. They're only crayons, you didn't fear them in Kindergarden, why do you fear them now?
- Keep your day job. The creative person basically has two kinds of jobs: one is the sexy, creative kind. Second is the kind that pays the bills.
- Don't try to stand out from the crowd, avoid crowds all together.
- Never compare your inside with somebody else's outside. Doing something seriously creative is one of the most amazing experiences one can have, in this or any other lifetime.
There are 26 tips for being truely creative. They're all pretty interesting. So if you want to read more, you can download his book at http://www.changethis.com/6.HowToBeCreative. Hope this helps everybody!
