When it comes to search ads, Google rules. However, we shouldn't discount other search engines, primarily Yahoo. In fact, Microsoft has made a $45 Billion bid for Yahoo. Why? Well, their advertising. While ads that pop up next to search results may direct traffic to your site, you cannot build a brand. Yahoo's display video ads can however. Moving beyond traditional banner ads to ads with Flash animation and sound, Yahoo provides the most effective web advertising. Don't discount Google of course, they are trying to bring video advertising to the sites they now deliver text ads to, but Yahoo is the world's most popular internet publisher, delivering approximately 140 million people a month in the US alone. If this deal occurs, Google is going to see a strong competitor. With advertisers expecting much more efficiency and bang for their buck so to speak, reach alone won't cut it, what will determine the winner from the loser is the technology to deliver ads with a rifle approach, reaching the right eyeballs at just the right time.
On a side note for all those avid Googlers.... I was watching a show on MSNBC about privacy and how we are constantly being watched, tracked, and monitored... no not by the government but by private industry...anyways all the Google searches you have ever done are saved and stored by Google under your IP address. Google searches are in fact considered substantial evidence in criminal court.
