Risky Business



I don't think anyone would deny that this is a funny ad. But, is it effective. I shared this commercial with some guys at work and we were talking about it and nobody could remember what the product was. Now one possible reason could be that it doesn't directly connect the lines as to what is being advertised, but there is another possibility. It seems that larger brands are able to take more risks when creating their advertisements. For example this ad Snickers ad:



Both are funny ads dealing with football, but one clearly connects the dots, while the other is still a little hazy. When you think about it there are a lot of ads like this. Funny and entertaining, but in the end you don't really remember what's being advertised, which is the principle objective of advertising.
