It is amazing what people will do for money! I just started working at “On the Boarder.” Now I’ve worked in the restaurant industry since I was 14 and I’ve been a waitress for 5 years now and I can’t tell you what I’ve done for 4$. The point that you will sink to. You get yelled at, “live to serve” others, and a robot could probly do your job more efficiently. The best part is when one of your tables gets really mad at you and doesn’t realize that you don’t care. Like when you mess up somebody drink order, app, and then entrée and they give you the look of death and try to bring you down (as if your day isn’t bad enough). Those are the people I laugh at… I really could care less if you drink isn’t strong enough or if your medium burger comes out well done, keep your 4$. But of course I don’t say that, I smile giggle and say “omigod I’m soooo sorry, I’ll be right back!”
One of the reasons I bring this up, is because I’m looking for summer internships online right now in “advertising” and I’ve come across so many ads for waiters and sales associates! I’m sorry but if I’m going to college, majoring in advertising and end up as a waitress I’m going to kill myself! But then I got to thinking how they are similar. 1) It’s your job to make sure spend more money 2) you’ll lie to get that money (“your kids are so cute!”) 3) You have to smile even when you’re secretly punching them in the face 4) you usually end up working with people just as desperate and nutty as you!
One last comment… I think it was T. Roosevelt that said “everybody should be waiter in their lives so they know how it feels.” This quote is retarded. First of all, being a waiter/ waitress is soo easy and we are WAYYYYY over paid. Don’t feel bad for me, I make about 25$ an hour in cash… so if your waiter sucks, don’t tip them well, but don’t waste your time complaining to us… because we don’t care… but if you like us… tip us!
Ps: On the Border just signed up to do 900 TV spots a month (for the first time) so I’ll let you guys know if this whole advertising thing really works !
