Race to live 2009!!!!

This past Saturday was Zeta Tau Alpha's 15th annual Race to Live which is a 5K run raising money for breast cancer education, awareness and research. I was so impressed with how many people came out to support this important cause. Last year we had around 650 runners and this year we had over 1000!!! It is really amazing to me that the majority of these particiapnts were college students using their money to be a part of our philanthropy. I think everyone can agree that we have all have to be a little more cost conscious these days but it means a lot to us that our friends and other students have gotten up early on a Saturday morning when most are usually sleeping from the night before and spending their money that they could be spending at the bar. Thank you again to everyone who participated in this cause!!!
Here are some facts about Breast Cancer that I think would benefit everyone to know and help increase awareness...
-Breast cancer incidence in the United States is 1 in every 8 women.
-Breast Cancer death rates are higher than those for any other cancer besides lung cancer.
-Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among U.S. women. More than 1 in 4 cancers are breast cancer.
-About 90% of breast cancers are due not to heredity, but to genetic abnormalities that happen as a result of the aging process and life in general.
