This evening, Ad Club hosted All-Night Yahtzee (ANY), Florida State's own award-winning co-ed a cappella group. The are absolutely incredible! Not only is ANY the #1 collegiate a cappella group in the Southern United States, it is the #2 collegiate a cappella group in the entire world!
Exec decided to incorporate an All-Night Yahtzee performance into our meeting after a bit of brainstorming. While discussing how to close our presentation on the influence of advertising in pop culture (specifically movies, television and music), we had initially thought of having a full gospel choir burst through the doors in song (and employing product placement, obviously). Alas, none of knew anyone in a gospel choir, so we were forced to toss the idea. I have a friend in All-Night Yahtzee, so after making the suggestion and sending a few text messages, we had them booked for Tuesday night. We were all so excited, especially to see the Ad Club members' reactions as a group of singers came cheering and singing through the doorway.
Lucky for us, All-Night Yahtzee was a hit! Everyone looked completely surprised at first and then after the group started singing, we couldn't wait to hear more. Most of the people in Ad Club had never heard of All-Night Yahtzee before and seemed to be very interested thereafter. I am planning on sending out the contact information so that whoever is interested can find out about concerts in the near future.
All-Night Yahtzee is definitely worth a listen. It's is truly amazing how such a powerful sound can be derived simply from voices with no instrumental support. They are tremendous performers as well, constantly moving, making eye contact with the audience and each other. They have just released their fifth album, including popular hits from bands like Paramore and The Fray, as they performed tonight. For more information and audio clips, please please please check out their website or look them up on facebook. It is so worth it!
