Riling The Troops

So I have been put in charge of a little project over at Godby High School. I am working with the ROTC program for some college credit. Anyway, the Colonel at Godby has quite an ambitious little project in mind. He wants to honor minority war heroes throughout history. Seeing as I am a Communications student, he thought it only natural to place me at the head of the project, and basically direct any and all advertising, PR, and general organization of it. Of course this is quite exciting, but pretty scary at the same time.

Organization, and speaking with people is not so much a problem for me. However, the issue that I am trying to find a creative solution to is how to get the actual students involved and enthusiastic about the memorial. they just don't seem interested in it. I want to be able to do something like a bake sale or car wash, but this is too run of the mill. On the flip-side, Hosting some kind of themed carnival complete with rock climbing wall, bumper cars, and illegal fireworks requires too much money.

So now I'm stuck. I have been brainstorming for the past week how to get the students involved, and so far I have drawn a blank. So this blog entry, rather than being specifically about something creative I've done, is more a cry for help. I could really use some ideas here...The best I can do is try to put myself into their positions and think back to when i was 16...But then again, I was far from a normal kid. Anyone have any ideas?
