This would be an AWESOME KICKSTART Idea...

So I finally saw Role Models at the SLC last night, and it was hilarious! I definitely recommend it to anyone who can handle vulgar humor.

For those of you who haven't seen the movie, 2 guys (Sean W. Scott and Paul Rudd) have to volunteer as mentors for children as required community service. Augie, Paul Rudd's "little" (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), wears a cape and carries around a sword and shield because he's obsessed with LAIRE. Augie doesn't fit in with anyone in the real world (even his parents are bullies), but in LAIRE he's a great warrior fighting for his country and the love of a beautiful princess.

So the scenes with Augie remind me of what we said in class at the beginning of the year about how creativity is stamped out of us over time to fit in with everyone else. The LAIRE battles are completely centered around imagination. If someone's sword hits your leg, you have to lift your foot up and jump around like your leg is gone. If stabbed in the heart, you have to dramatically "die an honorable death." Most people would feel stupid participating at first, but watching everyone in the movie get into it made it look like a lot of fun.

I'm not in a kickstart group, but I think a good kickstart exercise in using our imaginations and getting past social pressures would be our own version of the LAIRE battles. We could break our class up into countries and race into battle with non-dangerous weapons until one victorious country remains. You know it would be hilarious and a lot of fun. And if it's nice out, it might be a good outdoor activity!

So, next Kickstart group-- please feel free to take my idea!
