Stupidest Products of 2008

The other day in media planning, Nicole talked about a magazine that she researched called "mental floss" the name sounded sort of funny but I wanted to check it out and see what it was all about. Turns out it is sort of a cool little magazine full of interesting facts. One of the articles posted on the magazines website was a rating of the top "stupidest" products of 2008. Some of these I cannot even believe were sold at all. ever. It really is crazy how some "stupid" ideas can become to profitable (furby's, snuggie (LOL!), tomagotches (sp?)). It really makes you wonder how and who decide what "stupid" inventions are going to be the next biggest trend. Some of these stupid products listed in the article include, a "poop" frisbee, bacon dental floss (EW), sexy pirate butter, inflatable toast, and a condom gun.

I am very interested in seeing if any of these products actually catch on as a trend. Being creative seems so risky, like any of these products, which sound stupid, could be as successful as any other product that was thought to be stupid. For instance again, the snuggie. I laughed at those commercials thinking no one would be stupid enough to buy such an impractical item, but as it turns out there have been over 4 million snuggies sold, and there is an apparent waiting list just to obtain one. Who would ever know! Either way, I some what has respect for people for trying to be creative and atleast try. If you don't try out an idea it's hard to know, but there is such a thing as going too far (bacon floss?) but who knows maybe there are some hardcore bacon fans out there that would love to have the taste of pork between their teeth. Theres something out there for everyone and as long as these "stupid" products are marketed with enough creativity they could be the next pokemon!
