Sun Been Down For Days

I am all about downloading the free music that is available on iTunes. A few weeks ago I happened to come across an amazing (and free) video. The song is Her Morning Elegance by Oren Lavie. The video is done in stop-motion animation, a technique that moves an object by small amounts between frames, creating the illusion of motion when the individual frames are played in continuous sequence. The camera is focused on a bed for the entire music video, but the movement is incredible! The subject of the song, a red-headed woman, appears to travel through different worlds while she is apparently sleeping on the bed. The song itself sounds peaceful and dreamlike, feelings quite representative of what it is to sleep. For this reason, the concept of the video was not only wonderfully artistic, but fitting for the overall sound. After watching the video many many times, I was interested in how it was made. So I looked it up. As mentioned, the video was shot in all stills. Roughly 3,225 still photos compose the entire video shot from a single camera on the ceiling. It took four weeks prior to shooting to create an animated computer generated storyboard and only two days of shooting for the live actors on set to re-create the 3.5 minute computer sequence. If the creative process behind the video doesn't blow your mind, check out the video itself! Awesome!
