MTV's subtle change has huge meaning

Yesterday, MTV officially removed the "Music Television" subheading from their logo. Yes, it's only a subtle change, but it means so much! MTV was the cornerstone for showcasing new artists, styles of music, music videos, and more. They have gradually moved to unscripted (I use this term loosely) reality shows leaving hardly any room for ANY music at all. So I guess in a way, MTV as a brand is just making their logo fit their new channel; but the disappearance of "music television" is like leaving a legacy behind. It's sad that the new, younger target audience was having a hard time relating the "MTV: Music Television" logo with the channel because well, there was in fact NO music being showcased. I'm glad I was on the tail end of a generation that got to experience real music television.

And of course critics will say that there are numerous MTV channels dedicated to music such as MTV Jams, MTV hits, MTV2, MTV Tr3s, but no one can argue that MTV as a brand has changed forever.
