The End of the World

By now, we've all heard about the massive earthquake that struck Chile this past weekend. What you might not know, however, is the impact it had on the earth. I found an interesting article that explains how this earthquake, which was the seventh strongest earthquake in recorded history, moved the earth's axis by about 3 inches. This alteration resulted in earth's day being shortened by 1.26 milliseconds. While this doesn't seem like a lot, its still pretty crazy how one event can really change the whole earth. There's been an increasing amount of discussion about 2012 and the end of the world, especially since the earthquake in Haiti and now Chile. With this recent string of natural disasters, people are starting to realize how little control we have over the earth and how things can happen suddenly and unexpectedly. While I personally am still undecided on the whole debate, the recent events are definitely enough to make you stop and think. If you want to read more about the results of the earthquake in Chile here's the link to the article I found: Chile Earthquake May Have Shortened Days on Earth
