Frank Abagnale Jr. Tonight In the Union

For those of you who don't know, Frank Abagnale Jr. is speaking tonight in the Union Ballrooms at 7. The movie "Catch Me if You Can" starring Leonardo DiCaprio is based on Abagnale's story.

I love the movie "Catch Me if You Can" however I haven't seen it in a while, so I did some research to catch up on the details of Abagnale's story. He truly has an amazing tale to tell, and he is definitely a brilliant man. He started his fraudulent career when he was 16 by using the gas card his father gave him to make deals with gas station attendants. His crimes progressed when he started writing checks from his own overdrawn account and printing his own checks. One of his most famous tricks was to print deposit slips with his account number on them and leave them at the bank, so when people went to grab one, they would actually deposit money into his account. He accumulated over $40,000 this way, and changed his identity as soon as the bank caught on.

He assumed over 8 different identities throughout his career including a doctor and an attorney. He knew absolutely nothing about medicine, and almost let a baby die of oxygen deprivation in one instance.

Abagnale went on to escape from authorities multiple times with his fake identities and account numbers. He was finally caught in 1969, served a little time, but not nearly what he should have. Instead the government approached him and asked for his help! Now Abagnale owns his own company and is a millionaire.

Hope to see some of you guys tonight!
