I was sort of curious to see what the new season of “The “Bachelor” on ABC was like, so when I had nothing else to watch I checked it out. Personally I’ve never been a fan of the “creative” movement of reality TV I mean seriously they’ve taken over way to many cable channels, especially Bravo; MTV is like ¼ music and ¾ ridiculously horrible shows, they should change their name to RTV. But anyway I’m digressing, back to the “Bachelor.”
If you are unfamiliar with previous seasons of this show, I’ll fill you in. Two seasons ago they had a bachelor not choose any of the final two girls. They have a post season after show in which the rejected girl cries out to him and expresses how hurt she was and the guy acted like he really didn’t give a sh*t. This made the audience have extreme sympathy for the pathetic girl that thought she’d get married on a show like this (haha). If you can guess the predictability of the uncreative TV show writers, the predictable next season with the heart broken pathetic girl “looking for love” as “The Bachelorette” won’t surprise you (the naïve audience who thinks these shows aren’t planned out say “aw” and they watch it).
Granted every thing I just stated seems like the producers of this show are in fact smart. Knowing that they have a target market primarily of women, they factored in their assumption that women are a naïve audience and created this fairytale story. Yea I guess then they could be creative, but all these thoughts of mine ended after watching the season two finale and after show. The predictability and repetitiveness of it made me laugh out loud. Like come on really, people are supposed to think this show is for real when the same thing keeps on occurring and you can tell they are reciting and acting upon a planned plot and script. If you haven’t already put it together, the heart broken pathetic girl does the same thing the bachelor did to her and chooses no one in the end. Then in the after show everyone feels sorry for the guy because the bachelorette talks about him like he’s a great guy and wouldn’t ya know he has a little kid too making him even more venerable. Fact still remains that as stupid and uncreative I think this show is, many American women, my mother included, eat this sh*t up and remain loyal viewers. Because cable TV show writers and stations have been going so downhill in creativeness, people wouldn’t know good television if it hit them in the face. I blame the cable stations completely because even though the economy sucks right now, networks like HBO and Showtime have been coming out with amazing shows full of creativity.
I realize that reality TV is the cheaper route to go right now with the economy the way it is, and stations like MTV don’t have a choice but to produce these 30 min. jokes of TV shows; but certain stations like ABC have no excuse with all they money they make. All “The Bachelor” really is, is a higher budgeted “classier” version of “Teila Tequila” or “Flavor of Love” it’s amazing to me that people even watch this crap.
It frustrates me that there are so many talented, creative minds out there that aren’t in the industry, but would love to have the chance and can possibly change this atrocious reality TV movement which makes Americans look idiotic. It’s also a shame that people have to pay to receive premium channels such as HBO and Showtime in order to watch good TV shows with great writers behind them. I think the whole industry needs to step up their game and produce better, more creative television.

What about the season with Trista and Ryan? They're happily married now because of the show and have kids.
I agree with your blog, I would love to see better, smarter programming on network channels.
