The Walls of Jericho

To be pleasantly surprised would mean I’m saying the least of my impression of the film,  “It Happened One Night.” Last night, I witnessed this movie for the first time at the SLC on campus. The movie itself, which is considered the very first screwball comedy, was indeed hilarious, even by this product of generation Y.

To think a 1934 film that is still categorized as one of the best comedies ever made is incredible. Why such success you ask? Well, it’s all about conversation. From declaring Abraham Lincoln as a real piggyback rider to the concept of principal to limbs and thumbs, the story seems to fall in the hands of the leading lady, Ellie Andrews and her male counterpart, Peter Warne and their way with words.

Also, the timeframe of the film is brought into play as you notice certain gaps in society of how things are run. For instance, hotels are brought to this light. Each room has these “hangers” that allow for a string to go from one end of the room to the other. In such occasion, people could hang a blanket to cover any exposure from one bed to the one laying a few feet next to it.

So, grab a carrot and sit down one evening and watch this movie with a friend, family, or anyone who may just like carrots.
