She's got cutting edge style. She's inspired girls of all ages to dream, discover and celebrate their girlhood. She's got the hunkiest boyfriend around. She's Barbie.

Reaching from fashion to fantasy, Barbie has been an icon for girls all over the country for decades now. This year, Barbie is celebrating her 50 years of existence. There are very few brands that are as epic as this doll. Influencing girls from tots to their teen years, Barbie has created this world of plastic high heels and pink convertibles. While there has been controversy over the years of whether or not this image is a positive one, we continue to relish in her memories.

Almost every girl can say she has one fond memory of her Barbie years. If you are my mom, you saved every doll and outfit owned for when I have my own children. When I first read about this anniversary, I realized Barbies are timeless. They may come out with new styles or dolls with different hair color to accommodate different cultures, but ultimately, girls will always be playing with Barbies.

Loving this fashion icon does not stop at age ten. Think we're all too old? Think again! Along with Chanel, Marc Jacobs and Zac Posen, Barbie will be hosting a pink carpet runway show during Fashion Week in New York, sponsored by Mercedes Benz in Bryant Park. Girls of all ages will be permitted to attend the show featuring styles from the 60's to current trends. It is supposed to be the biggest celebratory anniversary a company has seen in a while- bringing events and exhibits to Paris as well. Come on Barbie, let's go party!
