Suspiria

I saw the movie Suspiria, a classic horror film from the 70s,  last night for the first time and enjoyed it quite a bit. In short the movie was about an American ballet dancer who went to a ballet academy in Germany and found out the school was run by a coven of witches.....from that brief plot overview I'm sure you can tell the movie was more humorous than scary.  Of course the main reason I enjoyed it so much were the great death scenes.  An element of the murders that added humor to the movie was the unnatural bright red/orange color of the blood used, and the music by the Goblins in the background, which made me laugh instead of cringe when the innocent ballet dancer had a pice of the glass ceiling fall on her and cut her face down the middle and stab her in the throat.

If you can go see My Bloody Valentine 3D, there are some pretty funny scenes it that one too. The 3D aspect is pretty sweet also.

The bright red blood is kind of a staple of Italian horror movies of that time along with over the top deaths and little to no plot. If you like/enjoyed Suspiria you should check out Zombies 2 (An unofficial sequel to Dawn of the Dead [The original not the remake].

If you really enjoy scary movies, you should check out Event Horizon. If was directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and was released in 1997. It is about a space ship that disappears into deep space. Upon returning, the entire crew is dead and there is evidence of extreme brutality. This movie kept me up for days!
