Tuna Turner

In my Intro to Merchandising class, we discuss merchandising strategies in retail stores, and our professor, who helped open up the Macys in Tallahassee, told us a story....

A long time ago, a product called the Tuna Turner was introduced to Macys. I'm not exactly sure what this product was, but neither did anybody else, which is probably why it mostly collected dust on the store's shelves. So in an effort to sell these random contraptions, the visual merchandiser had to employ creative strategies to draw attention. She created tiers and placed the Tuna Turners on the tiers and painted the top to look like a vinyl disc. She then put a puppet next to the tiers of Tuna Turners and had a sign that read, "I can Tune-a-Turner!"

The new visual did draw attention....but they still didn't sell.
